“When I first heard Kathryn’s voice I just had to find out who this girl was, this is the raw talent that our music industry is missing.” –DALLAS FRASCAAustralian singer-songwriter KATHRYN HARTNETT returns to the stage this year with new EP ARCTIC FIRE. Growing up in Goulburn NSW with four older musical brothers, Kathryn developed a passion for music from a young age and was given her first acoustic guitar for her ninth birthday. As the only girl, Kathryn soon featured as the songbird of the family band Fallen, with her brothers backing her in a variety of different line-ups as she honed her vocal and guitar skills on the local touring circuit.
Kathryn hit the Australian music scene in 2012 with the release of her debut EP Apple of Desire, showcasing her songwriting ability and folk/roots influences through her storytelling narratives on tracks like Home, The Dualist and People. On the Apple of Desire Tour along the East Coast of Australia, Kathryn captivated audiences from Melbourne to Cairns with her distinctive voice, melodic rhythm guitar, and spirited stage presence. During this time Kathryn supported major Australian touring acts including Dallas Frasca, Shaun Kirk and Genevieve Chadwick as well as performing at the Australian Blues Music Festival.
Kathryn recently released sophomore EP album Arctic Fire in September 2017, with a strong and confident rock sound built on a solid framework of catchy guitar riffs, tight basslines and punchy drums showcased on tracks like Letting Go, Running and Cloud Nine. Taking inspiration from the ǯ90s rock and grunge bands blasted by her brothers during her youth (think Guns ‘n’ Roses and Pearl Jam) as well as iconic women of Australian rock (think Sarah McLeod and Chrissie Amphlett) , Kathryn’s evolution as an artist continues with her new band featuring David Baird (bass) and Jared Cush (drums).
