Zambezi Sounds is a popular Canberra based band playing a vibrant mix of contemporary and traditional African based music and Caribbean reggae. Our repertoire includes instrumental music with great dance rhythms and vocal pieces, stories and songs, both serious and light hearted. The band is fronted by Zimbabwean musicians Ben Mutandadzi (bass guitar, congas, timbales and vocals) and Felix Machiridza (mbira, African drums and vocals). Other band members are guitarist Tom Sherringham and Andrew Howard on drums. In the last two years since the band was formed Zambezi Sounds has performed to enthusiastic audiences at the 2016 and 2017 National Multicultural Festivals and Fringe Festival, The Festival of the Dead at the Ainslie Arts Centre, Canberra and at the Tuggeranong Arts Centre, Canberra. The band has also performed at numerous venues including The Old Canberra Inn, Smith’s Alternative and The Polish White Eagle Club and for the UNHCR’s World Refugee Day at the Botswana High Commission. Further afield, Zambezi Sounds had a great reception at the 2016 Cobargo Folk Festival and at the Django Bar in Marrickville, Sydney.
